Vale School District Diploma Options
Vale School District offers a variety of diploma options to graduating students upon completion of one of four prescribed credit programs. These include the Standard, Modified and Extended Diplomas and an Alternative Certificate. All four options represent satisfactory completion of a valid and accredited program, and are designed to fit the needs of all students. Below are descriptions of the requirements for meeting the criteria of each option. Choosing the right option for you or your student will have life-long implications. It is essential to be well-informed.

Eligible Students
All Students are eligible for a regular Oregon diploma.
A modified Oregon diploma requires the approval of the Modified Diploma Committee.
Special Education Students who have participated in the Oregon Extended Assessment.
Students who do not satisfy the requirements for a high school diploma.

Oregon Essential Skills Proficiencies
Students must meet Oregon's Essential Skills proficiency in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
The Essential Skills proficiency may be met through State Assessments, work samples, or National/Standardized test scores.
Students must meet modified Essential Skills proficiency in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
The modified Essential Skills proficiency may be met through State Assessments, work samples, or National/Standardized test scores using modified scores determined by a building level review committee.
Student will be administered the Extended version of the Oregon Extended Assessment in the areas of Reading, Writing, Math, and Science.

Career Related Learning Standards (CRLS)
Students must demonstrate proficiency in the areas of Speaking, Critical Thinking, Technology Use, Civic & Community Engagement and Global Literacy.
Students may demonstrate the CRLS through successful completion of their Senior Project class or an FFA State Degree.

Special Education Services
No special education services are provided by Vale School District beyond high school.
Special education services may be accessed through the school year in which the student turns 21, or until student receives a standard diploma.

Federal Student Aid
The regular diploma meets the eligibility requirements for federal student aid.
The modified diploma meets the eligibility requirements for federal student aid.
The extended diploma does not meet the eligibility criteria for federal student aid.
The alternative certificate does not meet the eligibility criteria for federal student aid.
Military
May qualify to enlist in any branch of the military with a qualifying ASVAB score.
Students must check with specific military branches to determine eligibility.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Can a student change back to a Regular Diploma after they have been working towards a Modified Diploma?
Yes, however they will have to re-take any courses/classes required for graduation that were considered modified under standard conditions
2. Will a student earning a Modified Diploma, Extended Diploma or Alternative Certificate be allowed to walk at the graduation ceremonies with their peers?
Yes, all students in good standing who have successfully completed the requirements for a Regular Diploma, a Modified Diploma, Extended Diploma or Alternative Certificate may participate in graduation exercises.
3. Will the diploma look the same? How will people know what type of diploma a student has earned?
The graduating students all receive the same diploma at graduation. The diploma type is denoted on their official transcript, however it is never announced publicly. If a student is applying to college, a copy of the transcript will be requested by the college admissions office.
